RING-BILLED Summer: 19” Pale gray mantle. Dark ring just before tip of thin yellow bill. Yellow legs and eyes. Winter: Like Summer, but light spotting on crown and nape. First Year: Immature. Pale dark and tipped bill. Gray, black and brown wings. Light brown molting on breast and belly. Pink legs. Feeding: Worms from plowed fields, eggs from nesting sea- birds, flying dispersing ants, fish, mollusks. Freckles was hit by a car and his wing was torn off. He is unable to fly so he will be used as a lecture bird. |
